My first introduction to Applied Equine Podiatry was due to the serious hoof problems my horse Tilly was experiencing. After several months, I became concerned the traditional hoof care Tilly was receiving would not be sufficient to solve her problems in the long term.
I decided to research other options, feeling sure there must be more I could do for Tilly. My investigations led me to KC La Pierre, a former farrier of 20 years, who developed a way to achieve and maintain equilibrium within the hoof and structural balance of the whole horse, by means of ‘Applied Equine Podiatry’.
In October, 2006 after attending a series of workshops and successfully completing both theory and practical exams, I gained a Diploma in Applied Equine Podiatry. I have since become a Licenced Instructor for the Institute of Applied Equine Podiatry IAEP,and fulfil my Continuing Professional Development to ensure my Active Membership MIAEP.
I am now more committed than ever to the professional study, care and treatment of horses’ feet, in a natural and holistic manner without the use of shoes.
We as practitioners don’t heal anything; none of us do. The best we can do is trigger the body to heal itself.
My ambition now is to support other owners in their desire to achieve healthy hooves for their horses.
